Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) perched on a snowy branch Activities include listening to a storybook about birds, plus learning about the structure of a bird’s body and how to identify several winter bird species. Creatures of the Night: Owl Walk for Age 15 & Up

Naturalist Lori Schlosser conducts a winter walk to areas of Pine Hill Park likely to attract owls. A pre-walk information session teaches about the nocturnal creatures and methods to locate them. The activity is free (donations accepted), but registration is required and limited to 60. Spaces fill up quickly for this popular event, so anyone wishing to join the walk should register soon. How do local critters get through the winter? Kids will listen to “A Warm Winter Tail” by Carrie A. Pearson, a book about how different animals survive the frozen winter. Sensory exploration includes feeling the fur on a variety of animal pelts.
