Geology Field Trip: Fossils Tell Stories!

October 3, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm

The October 3 Geology Field Trip is SOLD OUT!

Future date for a possible second trip to be confirmed.

‘Tripping Over the Mountain’ with Jeri Jones

Trip over the mountain—South Mountain—and discover its incredible geologic story! Join us for a Geological Journey with Jeri: Five Stops from Carroll Valley to Monterey Pass, and Points In Between.

From being involved in the breakup of an ancient supercontinent 750 million years ago, to a shallow ocean environment, followed by an African-North American collision—and finally, intense weathering and erosion, South Mountain today stands tall.

• This trip will look at the geology, its relationship with surrounding landscapes, evidence of erosion during the Ice Age and the importance of groundwater.

• Collecting of rock samples permitted at selected sites. Cameras are welcome and guidebooks will be distributed.

• Transportation by personal vehicle(s). Meeting point, itinerary, directions and map provided upon registration.

Pre-registration required, please register via email. Bring bag lunch. Limit: 10 cars. Adults (age 15 & up): $30; Institute at Renfrew member discount: $5
