Enjoy a full theatrical production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream outdoors at Red Run Park near Waynesboro.

Produced by Maryland Entertainment Group (MEG Theatre)

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the third Shakespeare in the Park production by the Maryland Entertainment Group (MEG) of Hagerstown to be presented in conjunction with The Institute. This year, MEG is working in partnership with the Cumberland Theatre.

“This show represents The Institute’s continued effort to bring Shakespeare in the Park back to our local community,” said Tracy Holliday, Institute executive director.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is an often-produced Shakespeare favorite, with the Athenian forest filled with magic, including fairy king, Oberon and the fairy queen, Titania. When four young lovers from Athens run away to the forest, mischief-maker Puck causes havoc with a magical love potion.

During the night the four young Athenians chase each other through the woods while fairy magic is practiced upon them. Even the fairy queen, Titania succumbs to a magic spell when she falls in love with Bottom, a rustic workman whose head has been transformed into a donkey.

Directed by Sam Little, the cast includes Bailey Hovermale (Helena), Sam Little (Oberon/Theseus), Kimberli Rowley (Titania) and Seth Thompson (Puck). Costume design by Robin Shaner.

“A summer evening at Red Run Park and a magical Shakespearian production is a winning combination,” Holliday said.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics as they enjoy Shakespeare under the trees.

The performance is presented with support from premier sponsor, Middletown Valley Bank, supporting sponsor Keller, Keller, Beck and Ross LLC, an anonymous donor, and from The Institute’s Today’s Horizon Fund contributors: The Nora Roberts Foundation, The John R. Hershey Jr. and Anna L. Hershey Family Foundation, APX Enclosures, Inc., and The Carolyn Terry Eddy Family: Carolyn, with daughters Connie Fleagle & Kim Larkin. Facility support courtesy of Washington Township.
