Community Get Outside Day

The Institute is partnering with Blue Ridge Summit (BRS) Library in presenting Community Get Outside Day. Scheduled the same week as National Take a Hike Day, the event is designed to inspire appreciation of nature and exercise.

Coordinated by the BRS Library board of directors, outdoor programs will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the trails in Monterey Pass Battlefield Park and Happel’s Meadow Wetland Preserve.

Sponsored by The Institute, staff members/educators Pam Rowland and Doris Goldman will conduct a Family Nature Hike at Monterey Pass Battlefield Park from 2 to 3 p.m., and explore the natural wonders to be found there. Learn about which animals hibernate in winter, look for squirrels’ nests and other signs of animal life, how to ID a tree in winter, and general hiking trail etiquette.

Limit 15. Safety protocols will be in place and signed waivers are required.

Participants should meet at Monterey Pass Battlefield Park. Safety protocols will be in place and signed waivers are required. Free. Limited to 15 participants.
