Pennsylvania Forests Over Time

March 14, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Location Change: We have moved this popular series to a larger venue: Social Room of the Church of the Apostles, 336 Barnett Avenue, Waynesboro, Pa.

Second program in the 3-part lecture series, Penn’s Woods Over Time.

Presented by Dr. Beth Brantley, Associate Teaching Professor of Forestry, Mont Alto Campus Penn State University, where she teaches plant biology, forestry courses and wildlife management.

“Pennsylvania forests are continuously changing,” Brantley said. “This program will review historical influences on species composition, the current status of various plant communities, and trends that may extend into our future.”

“Trees are incredibly exciting and diverse living things,” Brantley said. The program will focus on the special trees of the South Mountain area.

Brantley holds a bachelor’s degree in biology, a master’s degree in forest resource management, and a Ph.D. in plant pathology. “However,” she says, “I consider the great outdoors my best education.” Brantley’s research includes butternut canker, American chestnuts, and managing exotic insects on eastern hemlock.
